Plan before the deadline

Radon in a Des Moines real-estate transaction

A real-estate radon test is a measurement task, not a home inspection or mitigation estimate. Agree early on the protocol, access, interference controls, report recipient, response window, and what happens if the result calls for follow-up.

01

Transaction checklist

Confirm who orders the test, who may enter, the device location, start and end times, closed-building conditions, tamper controls, reporting method, and contingency deadlines.

02

Keep roles clear

A home inspector is not automatically an Iowa-certified radon measurement professional. Likewise, a measurement credential does not authorize mitigation unless the person also holds the required mitigation credential.

03

Documents that travel with the property

Retain test reports and dates, mitigation proposals and invoices, credential information, system labels and diagrams, warranties, and later test results. Ask a licensed real-estate or legal professional about contract interpretation.
